Alan Sherman, a long-time Queens resident, expresses strong support for the Metropolitan Park project, emphasizing its potential for job creation and economic growth in the area. He argues that the development would provide much-needed employment opportunities for local residents, particularly those in nearby affordable housing developments.

  • Sherman dismisses concerns about gambling addiction, pointing out the prevalence of mobile gambling apps and comparing it to other legal substances like alcohol and marijuana.
  • He highlights the project's potential to create thousands of good-paying union jobs and stimulate local businesses in surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Sherman draws a parallel between the Metropolitan Park project and the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, describing both as representing "a great big beautiful tomorrow" for Queens.
Alan Sherman

name is Alan Sherman, and I have been a resident of Queen's since 1963.
1:27:43
Thank you for the opportunity to speak in front of you.
1:27:45
I have seen many changes to Queens over the years, some good, some bad.
1:27:51
I feel Metropolitan Park would be a great addition to Queens County.
1:27:56
First, I find it funny that all the people who testify against the park due to addiction all have cell phones.
1:28:06
Gambling on your cell phone is growing without anyone knowing what is going on behind closed doors.
1:28:12
Will they get rid of their cell phones?
1:28:14
Will they try to have gambling apps taken down?
1:28:18
What about the addiction of alcohol and marijuana?
1:28:21
All legal now.
1:28:24
With the approval of the city of YES, there will be a growth in building within our county.
1:28:29
In Willard's Point, they are building 2,500 affordable housing units right across the street from Citi Field and Metropolitan Park, next to the new Major League Soccer Stadium currently under construction.
1:28:43
Next to housing, our beloved city needs job jobs, jobs, jobs.
1:28:48
We don't wanna make the same mistake we made with Amazon.
1:28:53
Where will these people work?
1:28:55
The seven subway lines, one of the most overcrowded lines in New York City.
1:29:00
If you check the numbers, there's not enough room on the trains for these people to commute to Manhattan for work.
1:29:07
What better idea there than to have them employ these people as well as other people from Queens at Metropolitan Park?
1:29:15
They can walk or bike to work.
1:29:17
Thousands of good paying union jobs will be available once Metropolitan Park is complete.
1:29:24
This will also help local community and businesses in the surrounding neighborhoods.
1:29:30
The nineteen sixty four, sixty five New York World's Fair had the theme, there's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
1:29:36
Metropolitan Park is a great big beautiful tomorrow, the next generation.
1:29:42
I can go on, but my time is up.
1:29:44
I'm gonna close with, let's go Mets, let's go Queens and let's Alright.
Kevin C. Riley
1:29:48
Now your time is up.
