Aretha Wareham, a long-time community member, testifies in support of the Metropolitan Project, emphasizing its potential for economic development, beautification, job creation, and community benefits. She urges the committee to vote yes on the proposal, noting the lack of major development in the area for many years.

  • Wareham has been a community member for over 50 years and is not a paid participant for the project
  • She criticizes the current state of the number seven train station at 111th Street, which has been in poor condition for over 20 years
  • Wareham argues that the "no sayers" speak loudly but do not represent 80% of the community

Yes.
3:06:06
My name is Aretha Wareham.
3:06:08
I have been a community member president over fifty years.
3:06:15
First of all, I wanna say that I am not a paid participant for the Metropolitan Project.
3:06:25
I definitely approved the project.
3:06:28
There I'm sorry.
3:06:30
I just had a I have made many meetings and community and committee testimonies testimonials and have not changed my mind about the proposal's project.
3:06:40
I vote yes.
3:06:42
Not only does it provide it's providing economic development, beautification, job, and community benefits.
3:06:51
But my one thing is, you know, these things have been thrown around by the no sayers, like, it doesn't mean anything.
3:06:59
And this community definitely needs these benefits.
3:07:03
I've lived over like I said, I've lived over for fifty years, and there's been no major development in this in this area besides the Guadias Airport.
3:07:13
The number seven train station at A Hundred Eleventh Street is shameful and has been that way for over twenty years.
3:07:23
I wanna see change, and I'm definitely say you know, approving and supporting this project.
3:07:33
And somebody wants I listened to this since 10:00, and someone spoke before, and they said that the no sayers speak loud but do not represent 80% of this community, and that's two.
3:07:46
So, yes, I urge, the committee to vote yes.
3:07:52
I'd like to thank the committee for allowing me to do a testimony and
