Executive Director Jeanne Victor and Director Russell Ferri discuss EEPC's authority to conduct research studies, inquiries, and hearings. They explain how these powers are used in practice.

  • EEPC can require attendance of witnesses and conduct public and private hearings
  • These powers are used to ensure agency compliance with EEO requirements
  • For research purposes, EEPC holds symposia and events rather than formal hearings

EPC can develop research studies, inquiries, require attendance of witnesses, have public and private hearings and provide oaths with the purpose of determining whether city agencies fulfill the requirements of equal employment opportunity.

Can you share of the most recent time that you did a particular research study or held a public private hearing or any other action?

So I guess there's a two parter question and that part of that we might go to our research side, but I can tell you from the audit side, I've been using those provisions to to stress to the agency heads that we would have the ability based on those provisions in the charter that you read to have the agency head come into the to to meet with our commission, our board, and to explain why they have not met their compliance requirements.

As far as research is concerned, we don't hold hearings per se for research but we do hold symposia or events, receptions, that kind of thing.
