Council Member Williams inquires about the process and timeline for hiring approval and onboarding new staff at CCHR. Deputy Commissioner Salazar and other CCHR representatives provide details on the steps involved and typical timeframes.

  • After selecting a candidate, CCHR submits details to OMB for approval
  • The approval process duration varies depending on the position and vetting requirements
  • Some positions require additional vetting through the mayor's office of appointments
  • The timeline can range from a couple of weeks to a few months
  • A recent hiring for an Associate Commissioner position took approximately three months from submission to OMB to the start date

Okay, so let's continue this trajectory.
0:54:28
So after you've identified a candidate that you wish to hire, what is the process you are required to follow before you can bring them on board?
Mariela Salazar
0:54:39
We we have to provide you know a lot of details to OMB with regards to you know the name of the candidate, all of those important details.
0:54:48
Once they do get approval then it's just figuring out or agreeing to a start date.
0:54:56
So once we get approval from OMB then it's just a matter of scheduling a start date.
Nantasha Williams
0:55:01
Okay, so to the start date, in your experience what is the range of length of time it can take for when you identify a candidate to when you receive OMB approval and actually get that start date?
0:55:15
So when you submit it to them, how much time does it take for them to approve it and for you to actually set a start date?
Mariela Salazar
0:55:22
It varies, it really depends on the type of position that we have a candidate for, it also depends if that position then requires to be vetted which then has to go through a separate process with the mayor's office of appointments.
0:55:37
So it really varies, it could be a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
Nantasha Williams
0:55:43
Okay, what was the last position you hired for?
Mariela Salazar
0:55:48
Oh Kevin, yes so our our Associate Commissioner for Law Enforcement.
Nantasha Williams

0:56:02
