Council Member Crystal Hudson inquires about DFTA's methods for projecting future demand for aging services and how they use population data to inform decisions. Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez explains the agency's approach to forecasting and planning.
- DFTA constantly reviews demographics and changing community needs
- The agency considers population shifts within the older adult population
- Income levels and other indicators of greatest need are factored into planning
- This data informs decisions about the distribution of older adult centers and services
- Future RFPs for services will be impacted by these demographic analyses

Okay.
2:02:50
An important component of assessing needs for services going forward is to not only review past utilization but to also project future demand.
2:02:58
Does NYC Aging do this?
2:02:59
And if not, why not?
Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez
2:03:01
We do.
2:03:02
We're constantly looking at future demand.
2:03:05
As a matter of fact one of the things that we've been looking at demographics and changing communities.
2:03:13
You know like do we have, is there a glut of older adult clubs on one particular community and on the desert in other communities?
2:03:21
And so we constantly look at that.
2:03:24
And that will all be, will impact the future RFP.
Crystal Hudson
2:03:29
Okay.
2:03:29
And then how does it how do you forecast future demand and what assumptions do you use for the expected growth of the older adult population?
2:03:38
So aside from just looking at where the older adult centers are located based on population, how are you using the broader population numbers and data to inform
Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez
2:03:50
your decisions?
2:03:50
Look at population shifts within the older adult population.
2:03:55
We look at greatest need income.
2:03:57
We look at variations and try to see how's the best way to address those different data points with our service plan.
Jose Mercado

Okay.
