Council Member Brewer raises concerns about frequent door breakages in NYCHA developments and the associated repair costs. NYCHA's Chief Operating Officer, Eva Trimble, outlines strategies to address these issues.
- NYCHA is focusing on quick notification of broken doors through CCTV cameras to catch vandalism.
- They are working to improve training for maintenance workers to fix doors in-house rather than relying on vendors.
- There's a discussion about ensuring cameras are properly focused on lobby doors for better security monitoring.
- NYCHA agrees to follow up on specific developments where camera placement may need improvement.

And then the other thing is I wanna thank your staff because we just had a meeting on the West Side with all of the development, the leaders, NYCHA, agencies.
0:38:20
It was excellent.
0:38:21
In fact, I would recommend it for every neighborhood.
0:38:24
And the doors, d o o r s.
0:38:27
You break them, you fix them, you break them.
0:38:30
So it's about $70 per door.
0:38:33
So what are we gonna do about that?
0:38:35
It needs a different approach.
0:38:36
What what do you suggest?
Eva Trimble
0:38:38
Two things that we're focusing on with doors right now.
0:38:41
The first is to ensure that property management is made aware as soon as a door is broken because we do have significant CCTV cameras across the portfolio and we have had some success in actually catching vandalism of the doors.
0:38:55
So working with our partners at NYPD and our CCTV team in order to identify who's breaking the door.
0:39:01
So that's one thing.
0:39:02
So as soon as we have that notice the better so that we can deal with it.
0:39:07
The second is we are working to improve our training of maintenance workers to be able fix the doors.
0:39:13
So we're hoping to to work with just in house rather than having to rely on vendors more.
0:39:19
But that does require retraining our maintenance workers on some of the door technology, and that's something we're hoping to start soon.

0:39:25
My understanding is a lot of the cameras are not focused on the door though.
0:39:29
So in other words, you need a camera that's focused on the door.
0:39:32
Is that something that you're looking at?
Eva Trimble
0:39:33
Yes.
0:39:34
We do have significant cameras focused on the lobby doors.
Gale A. Brewer
0:39:36
Okay.
0:39:37
Not my understanding is not in the developments that I'm talking about.
0:39:40
So that could be looked at because
Eva Trimble
0:39:42
Absolutely.
0:39:42
Let's we're happy to follow-up against the list of developments.
Gale A. Brewer
0:39:45
Elsewhere.
0:39:46
Alright.
0:39:46
Thank you very much.
