I urge the council to prioritize public housing invest investment in this year's budget putting 1,500,000,000.0 towards NYCHA's capital funding.

I've lived in Stapleton Houses since 1992, raised my children there.

It is the largest NYCHA development in Staten Island with 700 apartments and thousands of residents and is often listed as the worst development.

People who do not live there in the development break the locks in the buildings and the doors and the and smoke in the hallways, urinate, poop in the stair hall, and threaten make threat and, you know, they threaten residents making them feel unsafe.

We had a blackout where the electricity was out for three days and like for a month for a couple of months we had the generators going on and off, you know.

They said the reason was because electricity the electrical went out and the wires were old, they needed upgrades years ago.

This was especially hard on the disabled and elderly residents who could not keep up their medicine could not keep their medicines cold or the elevators.
