I wanna start by fighting by highlighting our gun violence work.
5:10:29
As I mentioned, in the years since I took office, the shootings have declined 45%.
5:10:36
We are encouraged by the continued impact of our efforts this year.
5:10:40
As of February twenty third of this year, shooting incidents are down 36% in Manhattan North and 33% in Manhattan South compared to the same time period in 2024.
5:10:50
So that's over and above that 45% decline.
5:10:55
To achieve these results, we focus our work on both strategic investments and enforcement.
5:10:59
Immense credit is due to the hard work, of course, of our partners at the NYPD, and I also wanna give credit to our tireless community based organizations and community leaders for doing a lot of work preventing gun violence from occurring in the first place.
5:11:15
I mentioned my gratitude to this body for its prior support.
5:11:19
You funded us in 02/2023 to hire six gun analysts, one for each of our trial bureaus.
5:11:27
Their work is essential to gun interdiction and prosecution, helping us to highlight for juries key evidence, and then helping us to get these very serious felonies ready for trial.
5:11:42
So I'm very grateful, and that 45% decline number is really a shared number for all of us given your funding.
5:11:50
In addition to the enforcement work, which we give priority to, we also have done a lot of strategic investment work, which I think helps explain and contextualize that 45% decline.
