Council Member Farah Louis asks about additional funds allocated in the FY '26 budget for increasing the number of SAPIS counselors, guidance counselors, and family support staff trained to assist migrant students. She also inquires about plans to increase bilingual counseling and legal resources within DOE.

  • Louis requests a comparison of current fiscal funding levels for these positions
  • She asks for a breakdown of staffing shortages in special education services and paraprofessionals between Title I eligible schools and non-Title I eligible schools

Two quick questions, one is in regards to what's happening on the federal level but I'll focus on the fiscal side.

I wanted to know has any additional funds been allocated in the FY '26 budget for increasing the number of SAPIS counselors, guidance counselors and family support staffs specifically trained to assist migrant students and how does that compare to the current fiscal funding levels and are there plans to increase bilingual counseling and legal resources within DOE to ensure families have access to the necessary supports?

And this is in regards to title district, several of my schools are title one schools.

So can you provide the breakdown of staffing shortages in special education services and paraprofessionals between title one eligible schools and non title one eligible schools?
