Commissioner Tucker explains the reimbursement system being implemented for firefighters affected by congestion pricing. The system will cover firefighters who are detailed into the congestion pricing zone from outside areas.
- Reimbursement will be provided for detailed firefighters entering the congestion pricing zone
- The system is currently being put in place with cooperation from City Hall
- EMS workers are less affected as they move in EMS vehicles, unlike firefighters who use personal vehicles

So the reimbursement, which I think is great, that they would be reimbursed, is that something that's in effect now or you're looking to have it be in effect?
Robert Tucker

We we have city hall's cooperation on reimbursement for detailed firefighters only.
1:32:58
So you know, yeah, going into the congestion pricing zone.
1:33:04
So assuming you go from one area in Queens, for example, into Midtown Manhattan, we will reimburse you for that.
1:33:16
That mechanism is getting into place as we speak.
1:33:22
And City Hall has given us the green light to move forward on that reimbursement.
1:33:30
But there's more work to be done.
Joann Ariola
1:33:32
Right, because if I heard correctly, EMS workers and firefighters can be moved at any time from one firehouse to another to cover.
1:33:40
So then they would be going in and out of the congestion zone again.
1:33:44
So that's a problem.
Robert Tucker
1:33:45
It's less of a problem in EMS because they're moving in EMS vehicles, but our firefighters are not moving in fire department vehicles.
Joann Ariola
1:33:58
Right.
