Council Member Lincoln Restler discusses the Box Street Park project with President Andrew Kimball, highlighting a potential funding gap and seeking EDC's assistance. The project is nearing the groundbreaking stage for 85% of the planned park area.

  • A funding gap of between $1-2 million has emerged due to additional EPA testing requirements.
  • Restler asks if EDC can self-fund this gap, given that it's a small percentage of the total $30 million project cost.
  • Kimball agrees to review the project details and discuss the funding possibility offline.

You know, I spend too much of my damn time trying to make sure that the promises that were made in the second term of the Bloomberg administration are followed through on today, which gets me to my next question which is that EDC has graciously been leading the way on Box Street Park.
1:01:28
It's only 85% of the park space that we're building out the MTA still hasn't gotten rid it still won't refuses to leave from 15% of the park that they keep their vehicles on and and the emergency vehicles that they refuse to relocate.
1:01:40
But for 85% of the park land that we are very close to getting to break ground on, it looks like as a result of EPA, additional EPA testing we have a small funding gap.
1:01:50
This is approximately a $30,000,000 project.
1:01:53
There's a funding gap that we'll get a final number on by the end of the month but we think it's between 1 and $2,000,000.
1:01:58
So a small percent of the total project.
1:02:03
Do you think this is something that EDC can self fund?
Andrew Kimball
1:02:07
Let me get up to speed on the project and let's talk offline.
Lincoln Restler

Okay.
1:02:11
It would be enormously helpful if you can.
1:02:13
The best case scenario right now is summer twenty twenty eight completion.
1:02:17
I am now, as I'm sure my colleagues are, thinking about what projects can we get done before they kick us out of this building, which is already frustrating to be thinking about, but it's where we're at and we wanna make sure that we're laser focused on getting it done.
