Council Member Avilés questions the disparity in investment between Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) and other NYC projects, highlighting the relatively small $80 million commitment to BMT compared to larger investments elsewhere. Andrew Kimball responds by detailing the current and planned investments in BMT and the surrounding area.
- Avilés points out investments of $400 million in Staten Island's North Shore, $500 million in East New York, and $260 million in Hunt's Point
- Kimball mentions additional investments in South Brooklyn, including $100 million each for Brooklyn Army Terminal and Made Campus
- Discussion of specific BMT investments, including $55 million for bulkhead improvements and $15 million for an electric crane

In terms of Brooklyn Marine Terminal, in your testimony, you list an enormous amount of projects, and I too really appreciate the flying around New York City.
1:06:41
I I need that every single day.
1:06:45
And it it's really striking to hear, in some instances, you clearly know the city's investments in the projects.
1:06:53
In other instances, not really.
1:06:55
It's probably embedded.
1:06:57
But what's really striking to me where you even have mentioned them like in Staten Island's North Shore, a $400,000,000 city investment.
1:07:08
The Climate Innovation Hub, which is one little piece, a hundred million dollar investment.
1:07:14
East New York, 5 Hundred Million Dollar investment.
1:07:17
Hunt's Point, A Hundred And Thirty Million from the city, a hundred and 30,000,000 from the state, and I'm sure that is just a little piece of the investment.
1:07:27
And so I'm a little shocked when we talk about BMT that is a regional of regional importance, of importance obviously to our district, to our city, that the city has only committed $80,000,000 to the investment.
1:07:46
Can you tell me why that tremendous disparity in investment and importance?
Andrew Kimball
1:07:53
So first of all, there's a lot more in South Brooklyn that I didn't run through every

project, but just We could go through the list.
Andrew Kimball
1:08:00
Yeah.
1:08:00
I mean, know, the Brooklyn Army Terminal alone outside of the climate Right.
Alexa Avilés
1:08:04
But we're talking
Andrew Kimball
1:08:04
about Innovation Hub, another hundred In particular.
1:08:08
Made Campus one hundred million, SBMT almost 100,000,000.
1:08:11
So at BMT, to answer your question, there, as you know, had been little to no Port Authority investment for fifty years.
1:08:21
As soon as we got control of the site about a year ago, the city committed $55,000,000 for near term bulkhead improvements.
1:08:31
So for example, at Pier 10 ships are already having trouble coming in because of the fendering system and so we are moving to enter into contract with a several million dollar investment right now.
1:08:44
This week we are signing the contract to move forward with a $15,000,000 all electric crane for the facility.
