Council Member Restler inquires about the breakdown of reasons families enter the shelter system. Commissioner Park provides the following information:
- Domestic violence accounts for up to 50% of families with children in the DHS system, depending on the definition used
- Young families entering the system often fall under categories like discord or overcrowding
- The commissioner provides a qualitative description of the families they typically see in the system

And just 10% of families entering the system resulting, directly resulting from eviction for the families coming in as a result of DV or families who out of economic need, guess if you would describe it that way, I guess everyone's coming in with economic need, but lack of housing stability and economic need, young families, can you put any percentages on those two populations?

Then that characteristic of the young family entering, that isn't considered a that in and of itself doesn't align with a reason for homelessness.
3:11:34
It usually would get categorized in one of the discord or overcrowding or something like that, but what I'm giving you is a more qualitative description of the families that we see.
