Council Member Carlina Rivera inquires about the impact of President Trump's executive order to reduce the scope and size of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The order affects nearly $20 million in grants to New York State, including $8 million directly to the state and $9.5 million for museums.

  • Rivera asks specifically how this will affect DCLA's programs and services
  • She notes that while the symbolism is horrifying, she's interested in the concrete budget impacts
  • The question highlights the potential loss of a significant funding source for cultural institutions in New York City

Thank you so much for your testimony.
2:23:21
Let's start with something you just mentioned, is what happened on Friday when president Trump issued an executive order to reduce the scope and size of the Institute of Museum and Library Services as part of a reduction in federal services.
2:23:37
The institution directs almost $20,000,000 in grants to New York State.
2:23:42
That includes $8,000,000 grant directly to New York State, nine point five million for 49 museums statewide, 20 of which are in the five boroughs.
2:23:52
My question is does CCLA receive any funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, and how will the loss of this federal institution affect your programs and services?
2:24:03
Which I know we also, the symbolism of the action is horrifying.
2:24:11
But I guess just concretely how does it affect your budget?
