Commissioner Aggarwala explains how DEP integrates sewer capacity improvements with broader stormwater resilience efforts. He emphasizes the connection between constrained sewer capacity, wet weather sewer backups, and street flooding.

  • Same team leads both sewer capacity and stormwater resilience work
  • Prioritization of 86 locations identified last year for improvements
  • Collaboration with MTA on addressing hot spots of concern

I I think the answer is very definitely yes.
2:18:52
And and again, I I you know, we don't do these things in isolation.
2:18:57
Right?
2:18:58
So the same team that I referenced that that is leading our storm water resilience work, and and Wendy and Melissa are here and and they are they do tremendous work, did this analysis.
2:19:10
And the the same places that are constrained with respect to sewer capacity that might cause a wet weather SBU, they're gonna be the same places that are gonna have street flooding.
2:19:23
That was one of the key criteria that we used last year in this prioritization.
2:19:27
So I think these things are going to be integrated, is actually why I mentioned in response to your question about City of Yes, I'd really ask the council to be thinking about the broad set of priorities and how we are prioritizing those 86 locations that were identified last year.
2:19:45
And that number may evolve.
2:19:47
And you know, for example, we're working closely with MTA on a couple of hot spots that are of concern with them, etcetera.
2:19:53
But but I think it is that broader view tour or that broader journey towards storm water resilience that we should all be focused on.
