Good afternoon.
4:04:07
My name is Tanya Arris.
4:04:10
Thank you, council member and your team, for your time.
4:04:14
My name is Tanya Arris, I'm the new, chief executive officer for Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City.
4:04:21
There's Neighborhood Housing Services organizations throughout New York City.
4:04:25
There's two in Brooklyn, 2 in Queens, 2 in The Bronx, and one in on Staten Island.
4:04:33
We provide residents with the tools they need to buy, improve and keep their homes, but we also provide home repair assistance.
4:04:40
Home repair assistance that directly are caused by storms, directly caused by wind and hurricanes, and we receive requests for services on a regular basis to address these issues.
4:04:56
We are funded through the city and the state.
4:04:59
The funds are not enough, especially when the calls come in repeatedly, and we are advocating for funds for this year to increase the loan fund program, which is a program that provides only four grants per year per borough, I should say, and that's $1,000,000 and it should be more.
4:05:23
So, we have an extensive waiting list and we are also asking on behalf of NHS of New York City three million dollars to to support our home repair efforts and this will I know it was addressed earlier regarding putting a lien on the property and and it's evaporating over time.
4:05:47
So, this is the services that we do provide.
4:05:50
We are advocating for City Council and DEP to think about neighborhood housing services and other like organizations when creating different programs and services because it is needed.
4:06:07
With the increased frequency of extreme weather events, we know that low and moderate families continue to be hit the hardest.
4:06:15
So we're advocating on their behalf.
4:06:17
So thank you for your support and your time.
