Council Member Julie Menin inquires about the implementation of hotel safety measures required by law, including panic buttons for employees and human trafficking training. Michael Tiger, General Counsel for DCWP, responds with information on their plans to support hotels in implementing these measures.

  • The law requires hotel operators to equip core employees with panic buttons and provide human trafficking recognition training
  • DCWP is planning a 'DCWP 101' informational session in April, before the May commencement of the licensing scheme
  • The session will address questions from stakeholders about the new requirements

And as you know, the law requires, that hotel operators equip all of their core employees with a panic button and provide them with training to recognize human trafficking.

What type of support is the agency giving to hotels to make sure that this is being done?

Like, where are you in terms of that process?

I mean, as as I believe assistant commissioner Ortiz referred to or the commissioner herself, we are holding a DCWP one hundred one once the rules are finalized in April before the May commencement of the licensing scheme.

We're going to take questions beforehand from stakeholders, and hopefully we can answer as many of them about this new scheme.
