Rosario, a street vendor since 2020, testified about the challenges faced by street vendors and the need for permits and licenses. She urged the council to hold a hearing on Intro 431, which would reform street vendor licensing and permitting.

  • Rosario began street vending after losing her job due to the pandemic
  • She learned about vending rules through the Street Vendor Project (SVP)
  • She emphasized the need for permits and licenses to avoid issues with law enforcement
  • Rosario suggested that the city would benefit from increased taxes and better control over street vendors if reforms were implemented

Of all, thank you for the opportunity to participate and be heard.
2:22:46
My name is Rosario.
2:22:48
I'm a street vendor in since 2020.
2:22:51
And because of the pandemic, we I started, but I lost my job because of the pandemic, and that's when I started selling in the streets.
2:22:58
I didn't know about the new rules or about street vending but thanks to SVP I learned about those rules.
2:23:06
In addition, I noticed or realized about the need to have permits and licenses to not be chased by the police or sanitation.
2:23:14
And that's why I ask you to please offer us a hearing in for the proposal of of bill of law four thirty one.
2:23:24
I think that the city would receive more taxes from street vendors, and they would have more control over the street vendors.
2:23:31
Thank you for your time and for hearing us.
