  • In the last fiscal year, DCWP collected $7.9 million in restitution for workers

  • The importance of robust worker protection enforcement is emphasized, especially given potential changes at the federal level

Okay.
1:15:44
Thank you.
1:15:44
So, I want to move to restitution for workers.
1:15:47
I know Councilmember Brewer talked about paid sick leave and the importance of that.
1:15:51
You recently announced that you secured 2,600,000.0 in relief for workers from five businesses Burlington Coat Factory, Starbucks, which I know we talked a lot about earlier in the year, Tavern on the Green, Hot Topic, and Alara Caring to resolve violations of the city's workplace laws.
1:16:09
So, given what is happening with the Trump administration, it is obviously gonna be more important than ever to ensure the most robust worker protection enforcement for the agency.
1:16:20
What can be done to increase your efforts?
1:16:23
What can be done to increase, you know, any type of resources that you need in that regard?
Vilda Vera Mayuga
1:16:30
Thank you.
1:16:31
Yes, I mean, like you said that sorry.
1:16:33
It helps if the mic is on right.
1:16:36
As you mentioned, yes, we are constantly trying to promote the cases and get the word out about the cases that we resolve.
1:16:43
Like you said, well, last year only we collected $7,900,000 in restitution for workers, but in the last four years since I've been commissioner there, we're actually at 43,000,000.
1:16:54
So again, Yass is bragging, but it's bragging because we want New Yorkers to believe that we are there for them and that we will get results for them.
1:17:02
I think any worker that has, you know, been able to take advantage of our services and our advocacy can attest to the work that we do.
1:17:12
And so we will continue to do that.
1:17:14
I think it's important to continue the strong relationships we have with the various groups that work with New Yorkers, particularly those in any area or industry that relates to work.

1:17:39
Okay.
Julie Menin
1:17:51
Okay.
1:17:52
Can we just remove the bag from the room?
1:17:54
Thank you.
1:17:54
That would be great.
1:17:55
Thank you so much.
1:17:56
Thank you.
1:17:57
Okay.
1:17:57
To continue thank you.
1:17:59
So to continue, you were saying?
