Council Member Brooks-Powers inquires about DOT's tracking of injuries caused by motorized vehicles on sidewalks, particularly micro-mobility vehicles. Deputy Commissioner Beaton confirms that DOT tracks this data in collaboration with NYPD, but acknowledges challenges in comprehensive reporting.
- DOT works with NYPD to gather statistics on injuries caused by micro-mobility vehicles
- Underreporting is a concern, as some incidents may not be reported to police
- DOT is building partnerships with major hospitals to gather additional data on these incidents

The PMMR currently does not present data on injuries sustained by pedestrians on the sidewalk from motorized vehicles.
3:25:00
However the number of motorized vehicles routinely used in sidewalks has increased in recent years.
3:25:07
With the recent increase of food delivery vehicles and two wheel recreational vehicles, data points surrounding safety to pedestrians on sidewalks should be tracked and publicly reported.
3:25:21
Is DOT keeping track of the number of injuries caused by micro mobility vehicles?
Eric Beaton
3:25:28
Yeah.
3:25:29
So the answer is yes, but there are not that many that are reported and we work closely with NYPD to get those statistics.
3:25:39
One of the things that we are aware of is that sometimes an incident that happens on the sidewalk may not be reported to the police.
3:25:47
Someone knocks you down on a bicycle, sometimes everyone just walks away.
3:25:53
And so one of the things we've been doing is building partnerships with the big hospitals in the city to get their data as well.
3:26:01
So it is a subject we care a lot about.
3:26:03
We work with NYPD to get the data we have and we're working on getting more data from the hospitals.
