MTA officials outline their ongoing efforts to increase operational efficiency and reduce wasteful spending within the organization. They highlight recent achievements and future targets for cost savings.
- The MTA has been operating with a leaner organization, providing more service with a smaller budget
- In 2024, the MTA achieved $400 million in efficiencies
- For the current year, they have incorporated $500 million in operating efficiencies into their budget
- The organization continues to examine budgets and seek more efficient ways of operating across all agencies

Thank you for that.

Even though I would argue that a couple of years ago, MTA was pushing really hard for congestion pricing.
0:43:31
So they MTA has the ability to push for where they want the dollars to come from.

The next question is what is the MTA doing to increase efficiency and root out wasteful and fraudulent spending?

You know know we've been pretty lean as an organization looking at operationally what are the things that that we need to provide and how can we get back savings.
0:44:01
And so over the last several years we have cut back operating our operating expenses significantly in order to run more service.
0:44:12
So as Jay mentioned earlier, we're providing more service with a smaller budget than what we had before.
0:44:22
So I think that's that's just a key indicator of what we're doing.
0:44:25
Jay, you wanna talk a little more?
Jai Patel
0:44:27
Yeah.
0:44:28
I mean I think what I would add to Demetrius' comments is you know the MTA is always looking for operating efficiencies.
0:44:35
We had $400,000,000 of efficiencies in 2024 that we achieved.
0:44:40
We've we pushed the envelope and challenged the agencies to come up with a higher number this year, and we are incorporated 500,000,000 into our budget this year for operating efficiencies.
0:44:54
And we're working with each of the operating agencies to continue to examine the budgets and see where we can be a little bit more efficient, find better and cheaper ways of doing things in the organization.
0:45:07
So we will continue that as as an operation.
