Council Member Brooks-Powers asks about TLC's plans to expand electric charging capacity in boroughs other than Queens. Commissioner Do outlines current and future initiatives for increasing charging infrastructure citywide.

  • New fast charging stations are being built at a municipal garage in the Bronx
  • Companies like EVgo and Tesla are adding new charging infrastructure in Brooklyn
  • The Port Authority is working on building more charging infrastructure at airports
  • TLC's EV task force is actively working on expanding charging infrastructure
  • The increase in charging stations benefits both FHV drivers and private EV owners

And does TLC have any plans to expand electric charging capacity in boroughs other than Queens?
David Do
4:31:33
Yeah.
4:31:33
So the DOT could better answer this, but we are building some of the first DCFCs or level three fast charging stations at a municipal garage in the Bronx.
4:31:45
There's also been new charging infrastructure by companies like EVgo, Tesla in Brooklyn.
4:31:54
And so there has been a need and many of the need is being met with additional EV infrastructure.
4:32:05
Last year when, you know, I guess a year and a half ago when we released the additional licenses, there was a dearth of EV infrastructure.
4:32:14
Today, through our EV task force at our agency, the work of the port authority and at their airports, we're building more charging infrastructure than ever before.
4:32:26
And that's not just for FHV drivers, but for others who want to convert to a quieter vehicle, to a more sustainable vehicle in their private vehicles as well.
