The final segment of the discussion focuses on curriculum improvements and collaboration between New York City Public Schools and community-based organizations (CBOs) for the Summer Rising program. Assistant Commissioner Daniel Guillen outlines plans for enhancing the learning experience throughout the day.
- There's a recognition that summer learning happens everywhere, not just in traditional classroom settings.
- New York City Public Schools is becoming more open to incorporating enrichment activities throughout the day.
- Plans include implementing sustainability projects and financial literacy classes for all grades.
- There's an emphasis on experiential learning outside the classroom, including more field trips during the day.
- CBOs are acknowledged for their expertise in running enrichment programs, and there's a focus on collaboration between schools and CBOs.
- These improvements aim to drive higher attendance and create a more engaging experience for students in Summer Rising.

Yeah.
1:57:35
I think one of the things that we want to highlight is that summer learning happens everywhere, right?
1:57:40
And I think as the commissioner mentioned before, over the past couple of years, we've seen New York City public schools being more amenable and understanding that enrichment happens all day.
1:57:49
So we do know that New York City public schools intends to implement some enrichment activities during the day and connect with CBOs on how that works, right.
1:57:57
Because our CBOs, they know how to run enrichment.
1:57:59
They do it very well and how we can collaborate together, offering sustainability projects, financial literacy classes for all grades on top of what already CBOs offer in the afternoon.
1:58:11
And we hope that is another driver.
1:58:13
And we're looking forward to experiential learning that happens outside of the classroom as well, aka more trips that happen during the day which will also drive more attendance.
