Council Member Stevens inquires about the factors contributing to the decrease in average length of stay in juvenile detention. Commissioner Dannhauser explains the ongoing efforts and challenges in this area.

  • ACS is working with courts, the DA's office, and partners like Mok J to address length of stay
  • There has been a modest drop in average length of stay, but more work is needed
  • A slight increase in short stays is also contributing to the lower average
  • ACS recently initiated collaborative efforts with courts and attorney organizations to address this issue

What do you think that's

You know, I think there's been a lot of work that Nancy has been doing directly with some of the courts, with the DA's office, we partner with Mok J and others to try to make sure that that's on folks' radar.

It's a modest drop, so we feel like we got a ways to go.
4:33:21
There's also a slight uptick in some of those short stays, which will drive down the average length of stay.
4:33:27
So we have lot of work to do with our partners and we're we're really grateful that the that the courts and the attorney organizations came together with us this week to kick that off.

Yeah.

You know, it's one of those things where it's like you guys don't necessarily have control over the length of stay or any of those things, your job is to just house and keep them safe when they get there, but obviously I'm happy to hear that you guys are part of the larger conversation because I think it's important and essential.
