Council Member Stevens inquires about how DYCD collects and uses feedback from SYEP participants to improve the program. Deputy Commissioner Mulligan explains the feedback process and its impact on program development.

  • DYCD conducts two surveys during the program (mid-program and end-program)
  • Feedback is used to improve various aspects of the program, including pre-employment training and placement types
  • In response to feedback, DYCD has increased in-person placements post-COVID

Does DYCD include feedback from the youth who attended the SYP program and its evaluation of the program?
Valerie Mulligan

Absolutely every program year we do two surveys in the middle of the program and at the end of the program and ask all sorts of questions from did you feel supported through the program, did you enjoy your employment experience, how was the pre employment training.
2:26:51
I mean we have a whole host of questions I could show you this.

How do you use that to continue to build out the program?
Valerie Mulligan
2:26:57
Yeah we my team goes deep into that every year.
2:27:01
Everything from what we include in the pre employment training portions, the curriculum and content takes that into consideration and our conversation with employers and what we think young people need.
2:27:12
I mean a perfect example is that we saw that young people really wanted to be out in person and working and so our numbers have moved in that direction.
2:27:19
We have more and more in person placements you know coming out of COVID than we'd had over the last few years in response to what young people are telling us they want.
