The Law Department has achieved significant savings for the city through its efforts to enforce insurance coverage and reduce payouts from the judgments and claims fund.
- The department anticipates saving over $100 million this fiscal year in payouts from the fund.
- These savings come from compelling insurance companies to defend and indemnify the city in lawsuits arising from work by private contractors and permittees.
- Since the late 1990s, the affirmative litigation division has saved more than $3 billion through this program.
