Council Member Carr inquires about the agency's involvement in hiring halls and future plans for such events. Commissioner Molina provides an update on the current status of hiring halls and DCAS's role in these initiatives.

  • Hiring halls are now managed by City Hall, NYC Talent, and Small Business Services
  • Events now include opportunities from private and nonprofit sectors
  • DCAS has sufficient funding to support these efforts through the Office of Citywide Recruitment
  • The agency conducts civil service presentations at hiring halls when possible
  • A recent hiring hall in Brooklyn focused on opportunities for seniors

And then I guess my final question is, the agency in the beginning of the administration did a number of hiring halls around the city.
0:22:33
I think one was in partnership with my office.
0:22:35
And do you think that there is enough in the preliminary budget for, hiring halls, in the coming fiscal year that could be done on Staten Island and Brooklyn and other places?
Louis Molina
0:22:45
No.

Thanks for your question.

So I think, you know, like that the mayor has said, I think we have to go to where the people are to tell them about the opportunities that exist in the city.
0:22:53
And at the beginning of hiring halls, the cast was spearheading that work.
0:22:56
The work of hiring halls has transitioned to city hall, NYC talent, and the small business services.
0:23:02
The good thing I'll say about that is that it has expanded not only for city job opportunities with the city, but also career opportunities with the private and the nonprofit sector also attend those hiring halls.
0:23:14
We at DCAS have enough funding, for our office of citywide recruitment to support those efforts.
0:23:20
We attend many of these hiring halls and do a lot of tabling.
0:23:24
We also, if space permits as well as time, conduct civil service one zero one presentations to those that are looking for career opportunities within the city.
0:23:33
And just yesterday, in supporting NYC, Department Of The Aging, we had a hiring hall in Brooklyn that was geared towards seniors in our communities.
0:23:42
So I think hiring halls are one part of a very important strategy to make candidates and especially New Yorkers aware of what job opportunities are available and fully fully support them.
