Council Member Bottcher expresses concerns about the Department of Sanitation's proposed rule requiring containerization of trash from corner baskets.
- The rule may force BIDs to stop bagging corner basket trash or require fixed containers, potentially cluttering corners.
- Concerns are raised about the economic feasibility for BIDs to maintain a new container system.
- The impact on other groups like ACE and community cleanup volunteers is highlighted.

And what this rule's doing is saying they can't do that anymore.
0:37:32
They've got to put them in containers.

And while I am a huge supporter of getting trash bags off the sidewalk, and everyone knows that's like one of my main issues, operationally what this will mean is they're either gonna have to stop bagging the corner baskets, carry the trash bags somewhere else, or have fixed containers that, like, sit there just for this purpose.

And I would personally, I'd rather have a a trash bag there for a few hours rather than have a fixed container next to the corner basket that will further clutter the corner.

Within a few hours, it will be covered in stickers and graffiti, and it'll look terrible.
0:38:35
And it'll like the bids have been saying, just maintaining that system is not economically feasible.
0:38:43
And that we're not including that's just bids.

What about ACE?
0:38:48
We we fund formerly homeless New Yorkers to empty the corner baskets throughout the day.
0:38:54
They won't have anywhere to put the bags.
0:38:57
Our community cleanup groups, we have cleanup groups that volunteers from the neighborhood who empty the corner baskets, they won't have anywhere to put the trash bags.

So while this is well intentioned, I've been I've suggested that this be a pilot.
