Good afternoon.
4:53:09
My name is Gabriela De Leon and I'm a volunteer with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.
4:53:13
I wanna thank the chair of the health committee, council member Lynn Schulman and all the committee members for the chance to discuss how PPGNY's programs and services have benefited me and New Yorkers throughout the city.
4:53:25
For over one hundred years, PPGNY has been a trusted provider of sexual and reproductive healthcare and education programs for communities throughout New York City.
4:53:33
Today, I'm here to urge the council to support critical investments in PPGNY to ensure they can continue to provide the care over 70,000 New Yorkers depend on.
4:53:43
Planned Parenthood is important to me because as a student at Hofstra University, I've witnessed the positive impact it has had on the Long Island community.
4:53:51
The organization connects with vulnerable populations by providing essential healthcare services at community events, health fairs, and other outreach initiatives.
4:54:00
Through these ongoing efforts, Planned Parenthood has built trust within the community, ensuring that people have access to the care they need, especially those who may not have other options.
4:54:09
As an aspiring OBGYN, I am passionate about creating a future where equitable health care is accessible for everyone.
4:54:16
Planned Parenthood plays a vital role in making that future a reality.
4:54:20
This year, PPGNY is asking for an increase in funding to support its programs and allow it to continue to provide health care to any New Yorker who may need it.
4:54:28
You may know that PPGNY has been forced to make several painful decisions in the last year to ensure they can provide the care New Yorkers rely on.
4:54:36
I strongly urge you to support PPGNY's ask for 1,250,000 from the reproductive and sexual health initiative, as well as $1,250,000 from the speakers list on top of current funding to allow PPGNY to continue to provide healthcare services and educational programs throughout New York City.
4:54:54
Increased funding will help improve an annual budget deficit that threatens access to care for over 7,500 New Yorkers.
4:55:01
Support from the council now is more critical than ever.
4:55:04
Continued attacks from the federal government have made communities fearful that they will lose access to the resources they depend on.
4:55:11
Thank you.
