Scott Daly, Senior Director of New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL), testified about the organization's impact on youth in New York City and requested increased funding from the city council. NYJTL has been developing character in young people through tennis for over 50 years, serving over 10,000 kids annually, with a focus on underserved communities.
- NYJTL is seeking $1,000,000 from the council in its physical education and fitness initiative, an increase of $200,000 from previous years.
- This would be the first increase in 17 years, despite rising costs in wages, permit fees, equipment, and transportation.
- 75% of the youth served are 10 years old or younger, and 75% are Black, African American, Latino, or Asian, with 80% coming from low-income families.
