Council Member Sandy Nurse inquires about the data points DSNY is collecting during the first three months of the Commercial Waste Zone program rollout. Acting Commissioner Javier Lojan provides information on complaints, safety violations, and enforcement actions.
- DSNY is tracking complaints from businesses, which have been minimal.
- The department has issued 156 notices of violations during the transition period and 37 additional NOVs since implementation.
- Safety violations by carters have decreased substantially, which was a key goal of the CWZ program.

Okay.
1:16:14
And can you just say for the record what kind of data points you're collecting as you've rolled out this for the first three months of the year?
1:16:24
I know you mentioned in your testimony you'll have some sort of analysis later to provide, but could you do you have anything initial that you could share?
1:16:33
You know, what is that data telling you?
Javier Lojan
1:16:35
So the biggest thing is, you know, any complaints from the businesses as I mentioned.
1:16:40
I think another thing to highlight are, you know, so a big part of commercial way zones was the safety aspect from the private corridors.
1:16:49
So one of the things that we looked at, we've issued 156 notice of violations during the transition period.
1:16:58
And then since the implementation period we've issued an additional 37 NOVs.
1:17:04
So I think that in in virtually we're seeing very almost close to no safety violations by the Carter's.
1:17:13
We are still seeing some of them, but I think that, you know, the numbers have have dropped substantially and I think that's one of the other data points that we're looking at.
