I wanna thank you for having me at this hearing.
3:10:45
And I wanna thank city council because we didn't know what was gonna happen to a lot of the community compost programming last year.
3:10:53
And when the mayor made the announcements, cut city comp composting, we were stressed.
3:11:00
City council kinda said no, community is composting, composting is community.
3:11:06
And you all took a stand and because of that we have a group of amazing organizations doing work that spans beyond decades in New York City.
3:11:17
And I think it's just amazing that y'all took that stance and we want you to know that we appreciate it and we take it very seriously.
3:11:25
And because of that you've seen partnerships and cross pollination between these organizations such as Compost Power, Cafeteria Culture, Big Reuse, Queens Botanical Garden.
3:11:37
I feel like we're all working together to try and create a big picture composting system in New York City where we have Department of Sanitation working alongside those medium scale composters who are working alongside the small scale composters.
3:11:51
And I think what you did last year was you gave us a chance to create a very meaningful mycelial network in New York City where we can start to cycle nutrients and resources and figure out how we can keep this community going.
3:12:04
So I wanna thank you for that and, I think someone asked the question earlier of why composting is important and I think that was a big one for me.
3:12:13
I think composting is in the center of all things sustainable.
3:12:18
Not only that, we hate rats in New York City and composters don't like rats either.
3:12:23
So compost power worked.
3:12:26
Thanks to the city council, we've created the rodent reduction rubric that we can actually use as a building manual for anyone trying to start a new composting site or trying to get rid of rodents in the composting site in New York City.
3:12:38
And I think with this funding, this continued support of these community organizations, we can continue to show why we compost in New York City and show that it is feasible and it can be efficient and it can create funding in the future.
