Deputy Commissioner Shamash explains the data sharing and communication processes between the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC).

  • Automatic data feeds implemented between DOB and LPC for violations, orders, and emergency declarations
  • LPC refers certain applications to DOB engineers for specific review
  • Constant communication between agencies, especially for incidents involving landmarked buildings

Yeah, in terms of coordination between the two groups, two agencies, we've instituted a few automatic data feeds between the two groups, two agencies.
3:24:53
Anytime we issue violations or on up DOB orders, emergency declarations, unsafe building notices, landmarks, LPC gets an instant feed on that information and vice versa.
3:25:11
When they see an application come in that might have underpinning or support of excavation that internally they see might be an issue, they'll refer that application over to DOB and our engineers will take a specific look at it.
3:25:29
We do not have specific meetings but the communication between the two agencies is constant.
3:25:37
And if there is an incident on a building specifically that is landmarked we will work very closely with LPC to make sure that they understand what the emergency orders are and what we're expecting from the owner to perform.
3:25:53
And vice versa, they'll work with us and tell us is there somebody else involved, is there a new owner in the background that might be looking to purchase the building and renovate the building rather than the demolition of the building?
