DOB officials, including Commissioner James Oddo and Deputy Commissioner Yigal Shamash, present significant improvements in construction safety statistics for New York City. They highlight reductions in incidents and injuries over the past year and the current year.
- 28% reduction in construction incidents from 2023 to 2024 (649 to 466)
- 30% reduction in injuries from 2023 to 2024 (692 to 482)
- 40% further reduction in incidents and injuries for the first two months of 2025 compared to 2024
- These improvements occurred while construction activities were at a five-year high

So I know the numbers in the MMR are for fiscal year but we track these a little bit more in-depth in terms of calendar year.

So I just wanted to relay some numbers in terms of number of incidents and injuries year over year, calendar year over year from 2023 to 2024.

Number of incidents in calendar year 2023 was six forty nine.

In 2024 it was four sixty six or a twenty eight percent reduction.

In terms of injuries, that number went from six ninety two down to four eighty two or a thirty percent reduction.

That is twenty twenty three over 2024 calendar year.

If we look at the first two months of 2025 over 2024, we have again 2024 was almost a record low in terms of incidents and injuries.
