Commissioner Hendon outlines several areas where the Department of Veterans Services could expand its services if provided with additional funding, while also acknowledging the constraints of internal discussions with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
- Key areas for potential growth include employment support, VA claims assistance, housing services, and burial services for veterans.
- Hendon emphasizes the need for increased employment and entrepreneurship support, especially in light of potential job losses among veterans.
- The commissioner highlights the importance of helping more veterans apply for VA claims, particularly for service-connected disability compensation.
- Housing support remains a critical issue affecting all New Yorkers, including veterans.
- Burial services are identified as an area for improvement, given the aging veteran population.

No.

Just like I said, it's you know, I the most I can say is that certain conversations are internal on OMB side I'll say that.

The other piece is you know we can always do more with more and then the other one as far as you know for us when it comes to priorities when we look at areas where we you know could envision growing, employment is one to call that out because if we look at the current backdrop where we see more veterans who may need help with employment and entrepreneurship support if they wind up not having jobs.
0:44:18
Another area for us is it's VA claims as far as having more veterans who are who are able to apply for VA claims to kind of there's so many people who have damage that's been done to their brains and bodies who can receive this service connected to the disability compensation as example so connecting that.

Another one is a housing affront to continue to be right with our people in housing which is a core issue that affects all New Yorkers.
0:44:43
And then the other piece is burials, given that we do have an aging population that we are stronger as far as being there for families in those times when they have a loved one who is a veteran who passes away.

So those are areas where, you know, if the genie came today and said, hey, you know, Christmas came early, it would be employment, it would be claims, would be housing, would be burials, mister chair.

But to be clear for us, any discussions about these things are all internal at this time.
0:45:05
But thank you so much for the concern.

I really we we understand, and it means a lot.
