Council Member David Carr introduces Introduction 1220, which aims to increase transparency in the expenditure of public funds on branded materials by city agencies and elected officials' offices. He calls on his colleagues to support this legislation in the interest of accountability.

  • The bill is co-sponsored by Council Members Juan, Ressler, and Brewer, who chair the committees on contracts, governmental operations, and oversight and investigations.
  • The legislation would require reporting on the production and distribution of branded items like mugs, calendars, and bags.
  • Carr distinguishes between instructive materials and those that could be considered campaigning.

Thank you.

I wanna begin by thanking my colleague council member Bacher for finally explaining to me why I have an irrational hatred all my life of my father leaving the overhead lights on in the house.

But with that said, I'd like to call everyone's attention to introduction twelve twenty, which I'm introducing alongside, council members Juan, Ressler, and Brewer, the chairs of our committees on contracts, governmental operations, and oversight and investigations.

We have many agencies and elected official offices that put out branded materials, mugs, calendars, bags, all sorts of swag, to the public, some of which can be instructive and and and helpful, and some of which comes down to campaigning.

And we're asking that these agencies and offices be held to account and report to the council and others about those expenditures for branded materials.

So I call on all colleagues who, in the interest of transparency, would want this information to sign on to introduction 12/20.

Thank you.
