Council Member Powers outlines the benefits of the scaffolding reform for different groups affected by the current scaffolding practices in New York City.
- Small businesses will gain increased visibility as scaffolding duration is reduced
- Public housing complexes will see more targeted scaffolding use
- Pedestrians will experience improved safety, visibility, and enjoyment of the city
- Property owners will benefit from reduced costs and less frequent inspection cycles
- New buildings will have more appropriate inspection schedules

For our small businesses, this is a new opportunity for New Yorkers to actually see your business and not to be buried under scaffolding for sometimes a decade, totally at the whim of the building owner.

Public safety, especially in our public housing complexes where there's far too much of it, we're actually going to change our rules so there's going to be less overall, but specifically in our public housing to have less needed.

For people that walk down the street, they're actually gonna start to see sunlight and the skyline and be able to enjoy their city once again.

But if it is up, they're gonna have a safe block to walk down to make sure that they can see, that it's safe, and that, we can actually have a street that is welcoming to all of us.

And for people that enjoy this city, they should be able to witness it with their own eyes rather than being buried underneath it.

And for property owners and people that are are own property here throughout our districts, we're actually gonna get relief of the cost and the endless need to do the inspection cycles every five years.

And for new buildings that go up, imagine having to do a five year cycle after you just built a building.

We're gonna change those rules too.
