Sarit Platkin outlines the various tenant protection and anti-displacement initiatives that are part of the AAMUP plan. These programs aim to preserve affordability and prevent harassment of existing tenants in the area.

  • The Partners in Preservation program provides $3 million over 3 years to fund local organizations combating landlord harassment and supporting tenant organizing
  • The Anti-Harassment Tenant Protection (AHTP) program offers $7 million in legal services funding to address housing violations, harassment, and eviction proceedings
  • Additional legal services opportunities are being explored
  • A six-part series of housing classes and resource fairs, tailored to community priorities, is being launched in partnership with local council members and community organizations

Preserving affordability and preventing displacement and harassment are major goals of the AIM UP plan.

Here we want to highlight some key tenant protection initiatives.

The first is partners in preservation, HPD's new anti displacement program which funds local Central Brooklyn community based organizations to combat landlord harassment and support tenant organizing in coalition building and rent regulated and at risk buildings.

This is a $3,000,000 3 year commitment that began in fall of twenty twenty four.

There has also been a big call for legal services to hold landlords accountable.

The anti harassment tenant protection program or AHTP has $7,000,000 of restored legal services funding to address housing violations, harassment, eviction proceedings and affirmative cases.

In addition to AHTP, we're also exploring additional opportunities for legal services and finally we've partnered with council members Hudson and OSA as well as local community based organizations to hold a six part series of in person housing classes and resource fairs tailored to community priorities heard during the AIMA public engagement such as how to apply for New York City Housing Connect, tenants rights, and what to expect in housing court.

This series starts this Friday and we look forward to this partnership.
