Informing rent-regulated tenants about rent reduction options after vacate orders

Representatives from HPD and DOB explain how rent-regulated tenants are informed about rent reduction options when a vacate order is issued for their unit or building.

  • HPD and the American Red Cross inform tenants about contacting DHCR for rent reductions.
  • Tenants are given forms or directed to websites to file for rent reductions.
  • DOB and HPD have created an information flyer for tenants facing vacate orders, which includes information about rent reductions.
  • The flyer was developed in response to a bill from Council Member Ulysses last year.

Right.

And and understandable.
0:43:49
And thank you for that comprehensive answer.
0:43:51
I appreciate it.

Does HPT DOB or FDNY inform rent regulated tenants that they should contact DHCR for a rent reduction when a vacate order is issued to their unit or building?

Thank you.
0:44:08
Absolutely, HPD does.
0:44:11
The American Red Cross does initially when someone comes in for emergency housing, but also when someone contacts our emergency housing services and they're registering for our services, we give them the form to file or we direct them to the website.
0:44:27
You can file on the website I believe for HCR.
0:44:29
And this is certainly something that we highly encourage.

I

would just add, to add in, we have information for tenants, a vacant order that was put together by HPD and DOB, that's specifically one of the questions on the flyer.
AnnMarie Santiago
0:44:47
Perfect.
0:44:48
And that was via a council member of Ulysses' bill

Correct.

At this point I would just like to see if any of my colleagues have questions.
0:44:57
Okay, council member Gutierrez, Riley, and then Viles, and we have been joined by council member Xuan.

Thank you.
