Council Member Amanda Farías inquires about support for hyper-local food production systems in areas with the greatest need and affordability challenges. Kate MacKenzie mentions upcoming recommendations from the food affordability and access working group to address these issues.

  • A report from the food affordability and access working group will be released in May
  • The report will include recommendations to address local food production and access
  • The working group involves interagency collaboration, academic partners, and community groups
  • Potential interventions include expanding programs like health bucks or other incentives in high-cost areas

Is there a need to support hyper local food production systems where access is greatest and affordability can be addressed And what do you folks think that support looks like in terms of it being hyper local?

Yeah.

So what I in May, the report from the affordability and access working group that's been not just interagency but with academic partners and community groups, we'll be coming out with some recommendations to address some of that.

Because we all know, depending on where we live, the same market basket of food can cause something very different.

So while we may not have the ability to to intervene in the prices, we can actually we can really understand more about that and then figure out how we could maybe get things like more health bucks or more of those incentives programs in those areas with highest costs.
