It is with a heavy heart that I call attention to the tragedy that occurred in my district on the night of April 8.

There was a massive fire in the Bedford Stuyvesant portion of my district at 520 McDougall Street that took the life of our beloved 77 year old Sheryl Griffin.

She was a valued member to our community and a staple strong person in our community.

I can remember her always saying that she was a member of the Unity Democratic Club in which I'm a member of just as well, and that's where Shirley Chisholm announced that she was running for president.

And I just want to say to her family once again, my deepest condolences to the family, friends of our district and the Griffin family, and my prayers go out to Dominican Republic, all that was lost.
