Today, we voted on resolution eight thirty seven, which will empower the speaker to sue on behalf of the city council for any alleged challenges on the mayor's part to our sanctuary city status.

I, along with my colleagues, are vehemently against any resolution that would not work to curb the disastrous consequences that sanctuary city status has brought upon our city.

I'd also like to note that at no point have the people of this city been afforded the opportunity to vote on sanctuary city policies despite the fact that the people are the ones most affected by it.

Instead, they've been subjected to mandates and tone deaf laws handed down by this body.

It's disheartening that this body is happy to tax and regulate the tax paying citizens of this city out of their homes to make room for illegal newcomers who should not even be here in the first place.

The real humanitarian crisis is the one we're placing on New Yorkers.

For this body to have the ability to sue to stop any attempt to fix this self created problem is a slap in the face to every single constituent we represent.

I cannot and will not support it.
