0:16:46
Resolution three three three a sponsored by public advocate Jumaane Williams calls on the New York state legislature to pass and the governor to sign s 28 a a 106, which would eliminate the sub minimum wage for employees based on their disability or age.
0:17:01
We thank our staff member Elizabeth Arz.
0:17:03
Resolution 59 a sponsored by majority whip, Selvina Brooks Powers, would call on the MTA to conduct a comprehensive environmental impact study on the viability of the proposed Queen's Link project.
0:17:14
Resolution one eighty seven, sponsored by council member Kevin Riley, would call on the MTA to conduct a comprehensive environmental impact statement for the proposed Gun Hill Road electric bus depot charging facility.
0:17:25
We thank our staff member John Basile.
0:17:27
Resolution seven twenty nine for which I am the lead sponsor would condemn president Trump's targeting of diversity, equity, and inclusion or DEI programs and policies at the federal level and express support for such programs and policies at the city and state level.
0:17:42
Putting an end to DEI programs and policies at the federal level can negatively impact everyone by undermining diversity that benefits us all while blocking opportunities for those historically denied them.
0:17:55
Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
0:17:58
The systemic attack on diversity by Trump and his allies are trying to turn back the clock on progress in our country.
0:18:04
They wanna take away opportunity from those without their inherited wealth and privilege.
0:18:09
In fact, it's clear from their actions that they wanna return this country to the status quo before the civil rights movement of the nineteen fifties and nineteen sixties.
0:18:18
They are dismantling DEI and using it as an excuse to attack programs and opportunities for all working families.
0:18:25
It is morally reprehensible and no one should be fooled by this scam.
0:18:29
They're trying to take away funding for our children's education and the services that all American families need.
0:18:35
It is imperative that our city stands up for New Yorkers and our city's values.
0:18:40
We cannot allow this fraud to divide us when the attack is on all of us.
0:18:45
Anti discrimination protections help us build towards the just and equitable future that we all deserve.
0:18:51
We thank our staff member, William DeJoury.
0:18:54
Next, we'll vote on resolution eight thirty six that I'm sponsoring to authorize my ability as speaker to commence legal action on behalf of the council to defend against the Adams administration's violation of local law in collusion with the Trump administration and attacks by the Trump administration against the city of New York.
0:19:12
The chaos created by the Trump administration taking money away from the city's bank accounts, violating constitutional rights, and advancing its extreme deportation agenda has negatively impacted our great city.
0:19:26
Fear has permeated communities undermining the safety of our neighborhoods and small businesses.
0:19:32
Trump has shown a willingness to engage in full on assault of our city's residents, our budget, independence, and our values.
0:19:40
This mayor has been compromised into being complicit.
0:19:43
His administration's latest executive order inviting ICE onto Rikers Island is example.
0:19:49
This will make New York City less safe with New Yorkers fearful of seeking help from our police department.
0:19:54
And let's be clear, this is about the mayor fulfilling his end of the bargain to Trump, selling out New Yorkers in exchange for the dismissal of his federal corruption case.
0:20:03
As stated by judge Ho, quote, everything here smacks of a bargain.
0:20:08
Dismissal of the invitement of the indictment in exchange for immigration policy concessions, end quote.
0:20:14
This is the result of promises made becoming promises kept and the mayor putting his personal interest in Trump's extreme agenda above our cities and New Yorkers.
0:20:23
It is the council's responsibility to stand up for New Yorkers and we intend to continue doing so.
0:20:31
We thank our staff member, Maka Ejebi.
