Hi.
2:49:32
I'm Stephanie.
2:49:33
I'm the Healing Center's program and development director.
2:49:38
It's an honor to be here today with so many people doing such important work on behalf of the community that we're all working with.
2:49:45
And I'm here to just speak briefly about the importance of continued funding for the healing center during such a critical and scary time.
2:49:52
The healing center has been a pillar of hope and strength to families and survivors of gender based violence for twenty five years with a specialty in working with immigrant survivors.
2:50:02
And we walk with survivors along diverse dimensions of their lives, including their immigration processes.
2:50:09
We're taking a lot of care at this time to refer to accurate sources, to credible lawyers, and to protect our participants not only from threats by outside scammers, but also by intimate partners and people who know them well and understand how to capitalize on fears and misinformation.
2:50:25
And we wanted to speak as well to the need for continued city council support.
2:50:33
It's a very scary time for nonprofits to be so heavily dependent on federal funding.
2:50:38
We've been able to radically expand our programming, throughout the past two years with federal funds, and we're seeing our partners who support immigrant communities who promote accurate information and who protect people against being frauded and scammed, suddenly losing funding with three days of notice.
2:50:56
This is one of the most important inflection points in our history, and we're more dependent on city council funding than we've ever been.
2:51:06
And we're completely committed to not allowing these events to hinder or prevent our mission, of serving survivors of gender based violence for twenty five years.
2:51:16
And we work with survivors who are in the midst of going through immigration processes and securing at the same time orders of protection, working through the most vulnerable things that have happened to them in support counseling, or who are just starting to turn to us now after being alone and isolated for years and years and have never turned to someone before.
