Council Member Linda Lee inquires about the status of accessible facility signage in DOHMH buildings. Deputy Commissioner Julie Friesen responds that this is an ongoing project with some progress made and more planned.

  • Some braille signage is present, mostly around elevators
  • Not all buildings have complete accessible signage yet
  • An assessment for further signage needs is planned for the coming year
  • Installation of more braille signage is scheduled as a project for the next year

And I don't know if you can speak for all the different DOHMH facilities, but for those that have not had accessible facility signage in entryways, restrooms, and elevators, have those signage issues been remedied?
Julie Friesen

Yes, I did look into that.
1:02:07
Okay, perfect.
1:02:08
That's a work in progress.
1:02:10
We have some braille signage, mostly around elevators, inside and outside the elevators.
1:02:16
Not all our buildings have that.
1:02:18
And we are taking that's definitely a project for this next year.
1:02:21
We're doing an assessment for that, and we plan to install more braille signage.
