Hi.
3:03:52
Hi.
3:03:53
My name is Abu Naim.
3:03:54
I was raised in Hollis in Jamaica, Queens and currently live in Jamaica.
3:03:58
I'm here to strongly support Intro one one three eight because it improves street safety and directly addresses neighborhood inequities.
3:04:07
Jamaica is a car centric community plagued by speeding and reckless drivers.
3:04:12
At many intersections, cars are legally parked, passed a crosswalk, sometimes double parked, and larger vehicles can block visibility of stop signs for incoming drivers.
3:04:23
These are dangerous conditions especially for pedestrians rushing to cash the bus.
3:04:30
Universal daylighting will create safer intersections by giving drivers and pedestrians greater visibility.
3:04:36
This bill also provides an opportunity to to address inequities.
3:04:41
Jamaica in District 27 is ranked number one in the city for excessive heat.
3:04:48
With with daylighted zones, can install trees, shade structures, and greenery to cool our streets and protect public health.
3:04:56
Jamaica also faces serious flood risk and we can use these spaces for rain gardens to reduce flooding and storm water damage.
3:05:03
I urge every council member to visit spatialequity.nyc to see your district needs.
3:05:10
Let's pass universal daylighting and make New York City the safest and most equitable city in the world.
3:05:16
And I'm gonna go a little bit off script and say, I've I've looked at the study from DOT and I find it kind of amusing they use the hydrate zone analysis and base it on their own inadequacy of enforcement.
3:05:29
So they should be looking for other cities and not use their own inadequacy to justify not passing this law.
3:05:37
Thank you.
