Ayo Shanti, a native New Yorker and octogenarian, testifies in support of Intro 1138, the universal daylighting bill. She shares a personal experience of being hit by a car while trying to cross Second Avenue due to poor visibility caused by a truck parked at the corner.
- Emphasizes the danger of vehicles parked too close to intersections, limiting visibility for both pedestrians and drivers
- Praises the effectiveness of extended corners (likely referring to curb extensions) on 35th Avenue in improving safety
- Suggests addressing issues with hydrants and bus stops, as people often ignore parking restrictions in these areas

I'm from Jackson Heights, But I was coming home from work.
4:51:00
This was quite a while ago, and I had to cross Second Avenue at 60 Seventh Street.
4:51:07
And the truck was right up to the corner.
4:51:10
There was no way he could see me.
4:51:13
And I was trying to cross the street, and a car hit me.
4:51:17
And I landed right in front of the truck's wheels.
4:51:22
Luckily, I wasn't totally knocked unconscious, and I was able to get myself out because I would have been totally crushed.
4:51:31
That was a very scary situation and can happen anytime, anywhere.
4:51:39
I do.
4:51:40
I'm I'm on 30 Fifth Avenue, and they have done the, I'm not sure what it's called, but they extend the corner so that you can't park up to the corner, and that has made a huge difference.
4:51:56
They do need to however you work it, you need to where the, hydrants are and where the bus stops are, you need to do something about it because people don't pay attention to the hydrants as we all know.
4:52:15
And, also, the bus stops are not do not work as does not work for the pedestrian.
