Over the past few months, our offices have been flooded with calls and emails from our constituents with a singular message to not touch our libraries or cultural institutions, and this speaker fought tooth and nails to fully restore $53, 000, 000 in funding for cultural and $58, 300, 000 our libraries, including $42, 600, 000 baseline to ensure 7 day service and perpetuity.

This budget bolsters the council's commitment to combating affordability crisis in our city, especially our housing crisis.

As chair of the committee on aging, I'm glad this budget pushes back on many of the mayor's extreme budget cuts for older adult services.

We restored $1, 100, 000 in cuts older adult centers added $4, 750, 000 for home delivered mail reimbursements to provide an extra dollar per mail to providers.

And secured $1, 000, 000 in funding for state planning and legal services to combat deep theft and other issues commonly facing older adults.

We have more work to do to fight this mayor's attempt to defund older adults and secure funding for things like case management services and older adult center capital improvements.

But this budget, thanks to the council and the council alone, moves us closer to creating a city where everyone can age in place with dignity.

And with nearly $300, 000, 000 in funds secured for early childhood education and $54, 200, 000 in added funds for CUNY, this council is ensuring every child receives a world class education from the beginning to the end of their tenure in public education.

I'm also proud that this budget includes $1, 500, 000 for an unrestricted cash assistance pilot program for Low Income New Yorkers, as established by a bill of mine that passed last session and became local law.
