Increasing call volume and life-threatening incidents

Chief Fields presents data showing a significant increase in overall call volume and life-threatening incidents over the past few years. This increase in demand is putting pressure on EMS resources.
- Total emergency medical incidents increased year over year
- FY24 saw 1,644,446 total incidents
- Life-threatening calls (Segment 1-3) increased by 5% from FY23 to FY24
- In FY24, there were 633,361 life-threatening incidents, an increase of over 28,000 calls

This is a trend that has continued year after year for as long as I have been involved in EMS to be Pacific The total number of emergency medical incidents in fiscal year 22 was 1531,959.

Not only is the number of overall calls increasing, but these increases includes a growing number of life threatening calls.

Between fiscal year 23 fiscal year 24, the number of segment 1 to 3 calls, which the fire department defines as life threatening, increased by 5%.
