And before, we begin our questions, I just wanna reiterate what I said at our last hearing on a nominee for this position as well, which is the hearing of today's hearing is not, to determine whether you're a competent attorney.
0:08:18
Of course, that is part of it.
0:08:20
It's also it's, you're but we we all know you're an accomplished incompetent litigator and a dedicated public servant.
0:08:26
We all but this is really an opportunity to hear from the nominees so we can determine whether the nominee has demonstrated the commitment to advancing justice, deserving the public trust, to represent the entirety of the New York City as the head of the law department.
0:08:39
We wanna make sure the corporation also has a faith and trust of officials throughout our government, including the counsel, the hundreds of attorneys, staff of the law department, the diverse people of New York City, that they will represent the public interest of all New Yorkers and prioritize the pursuit of justice over politics.
0:08:53
And, of course, today's hearing allows us to transparently make that assessment.
0:08:58
As chair, I'm gonna recognize council members to address the nominee, to make statements, and ask questions starting with members of this committee and followed by other council members.
0:09:07
We'll give flexibility as we often do for members on the first round questioning.
0:09:11
But if there's a second round, we'll ask members to I will put them on a time limit.
0:09:16
I wanna start by recognizing speaker Adrienne Adams to ask the first round of questions.
